Award for the Best New Talent in Cante Flamenco, 2000
Nominated for Best Flamenco Album at the prestigious 2001 Latin Grammy Awards
Querencia is the word that best defines the raison d’etre behind this work. It had been a long time since I had used flamenco music to pour so much of myself into an album. And it’s wonderful to recall your musical roots, with no constraints or immobility, with no limitations. I believe that limits are always imposed by people who are incapable of crossing them, and flamenco is my origin, not my yoke.
It has also been incredibly rewarding to realise that evolution, for which I thank time for every day, does not consist in perfecting technique, but in learning how I can work with it and transmit what I feel despite it.
Each and every one of my albums is a reflection of my emotions at that time and the summary of a stage of my life and my experiences; for this reason, each one of them, beyond its content, comes from a different expression of my absolute truth.
Time and again, I give thanks and life to those who gave it to me, for having the opportunity and the immense privilege of being free and transparent. I have turned that freedom and transparency into my most significant and beautiful form of communication; and because of that, every time I step on stage there are hundreds of people sitting in front of me, accomplices of my emotions, giving me the gift of their smiles, their tears and their applause, in exchange for my truth; in whatever form it may be.
Whatever life throws at me, whatever I do, whatever I sing, my heart is always present, driving and steering all my movements, I never know where my utopia will lead me; this blind faith in what I believe and this need to always appear whole. But whatever it may be and wherever it takes me, I will feel at peace in the knowledge that each one of those places is just an inevitable consequence of myself.
